Frequently there are concerns expressed by Camp Directors and senior staff regarding criminal record checks for individuals under 18 years of age. This paper, authored by the federal Department of Justice and taken from their website may assist in raising awareness as to when criminal record checks can be requested, by whom, and what information will be release – http://www.justice.gc.ca/eng/cj-jp/yj-jj/tools-outils/sheets-feuillets/pdf/recor-dossi.pdf
Individuals under the age of 18 can be asked to obtain a criminal record check, but they must visit their local police, obtain the result themselves and share them with the Camp Director. The results cannot be provided by the police directly to Camp Directors or a third party provider.
