We Mourn Their Passing

Posted on September 18, 2012 by spreston

This summer, two prominent camping leaders passed on: Lorne Bowering of British Columbia and Cliff Labbett of Ontario.

Lorne directed YMCA Camp Elphinstone from 1961- 1992.  In 2007, he received the Order of the Golden E for his commitment and service to the YMCA.  He was a strong advocate of camping programs across Canada.  In 1979, CCA/ACC recognized his contribution to camping with the Jack Pearse Award of Honour.

Cliff Labbett and his wife, June, directed Camp Oconto from 1949-1982.  Cliff was a founding fellow of the Society of Camp Directors, President of the Ontario Camping Association from 1963-1965 and President of the Canadian Camping Association from 1979-1981.

Our profession is indebted to leaders of the calibre of Lorne Bowering and Cliff Labbett.
